Psychological Counseling

Counselling also address non-work aspects of an individual's life and may involve in-depth exploration of the client's history and their key relationships with parents and other family members - issues that may be only slightly related to business effectiveness. Furthermore counseling may also lead to deep and sometimes intense emotional release that requires skilful guidance from an experienced practitioner.
Counselling takes care of issues such as:

  • Addictions
  • Anxiety/Stress
  • Eating Disorders
  • Relationship Problems/Parenting
  • Depression
  • Health
  • Sex/Intimacy Issues
  • Trauma/Phobias
  • Bereavement

It may share coaching's goals of improved personal excellence, increased awareness of problematic emotional reactions and thoughts that may impede work effectiveness and peak performance.

Personal Coaching

Personal Coaching deals with the following areas of life:

  • Personal Development
  • Career
  • Communication & Self-Expression
  • Business/Working Performance
  • Health/Wellness
  • Wealth

It deals with functional people who want to achieve excellence while creating an extraordinary life. Coaching is a process similar to solution-focused techniques that therapists use for less serious psycho-emotional problems and stressful life situations. But coaching goes beyond problem solving and creates a life for the client that is purposeful and focused.

Important for clients

Due to the differences between Counseling & Coaching, what is acceptable for one intervention may be inappropriate for the other. While a counselor may legitimately explore the early-childhood, family of origin and roots of difficult behaviors with a client, it is less appropriate for a personal coach to do so. The back ground and training of a coach and a counselor are very different.

If a coach feels there is important unfinished emotional business hampering an executive's performance in the workplace for example, he or she should refer the executive to a competent counselor.

Likewise a counselor should refer a client to a coach if coaching would be more appropriate for them.

Clients have the right to ask about a counselor or coach’s qualifications, background  training and approach.

Right now I can only hypnotize you,
persuade you; make you believe that I’m right. You don’t know.
I’m just preaching about something.
You wouldn’t learn from my words.
Learning is discovery.
There is no other means of effective learning
You can tell a child a thousand times,
“The stove is hot!” It doesn’t help.
The child has to discover it for himself.
And I hope I can assist you in learning,
in discovering something about yourself.
